Margaret Sutherland Brown is an agent at Folio Literary Management where she represents literary and upmarket commercial fiction and narrative nonfiction. She began her career in editorial, and spent seven years at Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martin’s Press, before becoming an agent at Emma Sweeney Agency, LLC. Margaret’s editorial background informs how closely and thoroughly she works with her clients to deeply develop their projects before submitting to publishers. Her clients have won the American Book Award, been finalists for the National Book Award and the PEN/Hemingway Award, and been awarded Guggenheim Fellowships. Margaret represents our Author-in-Residence, Alka Joshi. She grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two sons.
